We had many wonderful applicants for our scholarships this year and it was difficult to choose, but the committee all agreed on these three applicants and awarded each of them a $1000 scholarship.
BAF Female Recipient, Annie Spies
Annie’s resume is impressive and her essay about her time at BHS touched us all. She was so articulate as she shared all of her experiences at Bay High, including the journey she took with her close friend as she battled cancer.
She is the epitome of a well-rounded student and active member of her school community by being a part of rockettes, lacrosse, yearbook, YPF, a lifeguard, head referee for the soccer club, and a well-loved babysitter!
BAF Male Recipient, Ben Noren
Ben had me when he used the word “sublime” in the first sentence of his essay. He has been active in a wide range of experiences including Buckeye Boys State, Cleveland Museum of Art Teen Co-Op, FAIT Future Agents in Training, cross country, jazz band, A cappella Choir, Pit band, Key Club, and volunteered in county democratic party, youth challenge, and Bay Days for League of Women Voters. His academic resume is very impressive!
The Class of ’66 Recipient, Avery Waffen
Avery was selected as one of 2 students accepted to a regional program for Media Art and Design. She attended classes half of the day at BHS and half of the day at Lakewood High School where classes focused on visual arts and computer design. She plans to attend Ohio University in the fall where she will continue her love of photography. We are very excited to present our award to a young woman who participated in the Vocational Education program at BHS this year.
Congratulations to all of these impressive young people, we are all cheering for them as they begin the next chapter of their lives. Go with confidence, be happy, and keep in touch!
