2020 Bay Alumni Foundation Scholarship Award Winners

The Class of 2020 had an unexpected end to their senior year!  The Kiwanis Awards Night was held virtually for the first time and Jason Martin, BHS principal announced the winners.  But it was a wonderful evening under very strange circumstances.  We had many impressive applicants for our scholarships this year and it was difficult to choose, but the committee all agreed on these three applicants and awarded each of them a $1000 scholarship.

BAF Female Recipient, Audrey Ray

Audrey is headed to the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa where she was accepted into the Blount  Scholars program.  She is planning a liberal arts major at this point.  Her impressive resume includes Student Council officer, running cross country, track, concert band and marching band, certified lifeguard for Bay Rec and Buckeye Girls’s State leadership camp.  Audrey spent 7 months living in Stellenbosch, South Africa in 5th grade where her experiences there impacted her life in many ways.  She promises to “bring A. Ray of sunshine wherever she goes!”

BAF Male Recipient, Mason Hewko

Mason will attend Belmont University in Nashville, TN where he plans a double major in music business and singer/songwriting.  His outgoing personality and many talents made him a favorite of many teachers.  He was in symphonic band, marching band, A Capella Choir, Choraleers, Show Choir, and a member of the swim team. His swim coach describes him as a “once in a lifetime athlete/student/leader.”

The Class of ’66 Recipient, Lily Wynne-Lowther

Lily is headed to Ohio State and will be in a pre-med track.  Lily was an active part of the class of 2020 and was in National Honor Society, YPF, ran cross country, track, orchestra and chamber orchestra.  She went to Camp Kesem, a camp for children whose parents had/have cancer for 9 years and was a LIT the summer of 2019.  She also volunteered at The Gathering Place.

Congratulations to all of these impressive young people.  Every year we are more impressed with the students who apply for our scholarships.  We are all cheering for them as they begin the next chapter of their lives.  Go with confidence, be happy, and keep in touch!
